Position Purpose:

The Assistant Director of Campus Events supports learning by assisting the Community Relations department in the coordination of campus events. With the mission, vision, and core values of Aurora University central to the work, this position is an integral part of the Community Relations team and is a key member in helping achieve the university’s success.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Responsible for the planning, supporting, and executing quality campus events.
  2. Coordinates event logistics including space reservations, set-up, audiovisual needs, and catering services for departments across campus.
  3. Uses the 25LivePro reservation program and the Smart Draw event diagram program.
  4. Addresses logistical issues that arise in the execution of events.
  5. Works with outside vendors, as appropriate, and other university departments to coordinate various aspects of events.
  6. Interacts effectively with the campus community, alumni, and community members.
  7. Assists the event team members with pre- and post-special event set-up and/or takedown as needed.
  8. Assists the Community Relations team with continuous process improvement for events management.
  9. Maintains a high level of customer service.

Essential Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required or a minimum of three to five years equivalent significant experience, preferably in higher education.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve or exceed goals and the ability to consistently meet deadlines.

Skills:

  • Strategic thinking and orientation with the ability to identify and to solve problems.
  • The ability to deal with multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and the flexibility to deal with changing needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents; the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external audiences.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends for university sanctioned events.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, with a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, and the internet.
  • The ability to work independently and as a member of the Community Relations team.
  • Strong enthusiasm, motivation, and drive.

  • Ability to move about campus.
  • Ability to use computer, telephone, email, and office equipment.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
